General English

General English is for elementary to advanced level learners. This course has two modules:

1) Practical English and
2) Pronunciation Practice.

Practical English helps students improve their core English skills in the most efficient way possible. It guides users through an adaptive learning path and improves their overall English ability with a specific focus on grammar, listening and reading.

Pronunciation Practice uses speech recognition technology to help students improve their pronunciation.
General English can be used across a range of devices (mobile and computer), allowing for seamless study anywhere anytime.

Modules

Practical English:

• 400+ content-rich lessons from A1 – C1 level covering a range of topics presenting language in day-to-day or work-place situations
• A wide range of exercise types, including animated dialogs, speed-reading, etc. to provide interest and aid comprehension
• Detailed feedback on each activity, plus a full grammar reference to support learning and review
• An adaptive learning formula that begins with a diagnostic test and continually provides lessons at the right level for each student
• Material that includes a variety of accents from both English and non-English speaking countries
• End-of-lesson tests to measure progress and periodic level adjustments.

 

Pronunciation Practice:

• 180 short pronunciation lessons from A1 – C1 covering a wide range of everyday topics.
• An opportunity to review key language from Practical English with a pronunciation focus.
• Study sections that present everyday words and sentences for focused listening practice.
• A record and playback function for students to compare their pronunciation with language models.
• Speech recognition technology that identifies problem areas, and allows students to check their accuracy.

 

Assignments/Tests

Students are required to pass 50 lessons from each module to complete both modules, but are free to study many more if they want to maximize the value from this course. Every Practical English lesson has a built-in short test.
