Take a Sample Test
Taking a sample test will help you to familiarize yourself with the types of questions you will encounter on the Duolingo English Test and help you focus on doing your best. The sample test is free, and you can take it as many times as you want. When you complete it, the sample test provides an estimated score range which may not be accurate as the test I shorter and only to give you a brief testing experience.
Prepare the testing environment
The Duolingo English Test is conducted online and you will be accessing the test from your computer. Make sure you have everything you need ready before you start the test. You must have:
- A government-issued photo ID (passport is ideal)
- A quiet, well-lit room with no disturbances and interferences
- one hour of uninterrupted time
- A computer or laptop equipped with a front-facing camera and speakers
- An internet connection and compatible browser (Google Chrome or Opera)
Understand the Rules for the testing
Ensure that you understand and follow the rules strictly to complete a Duolingo test successfully. Familiarise yourself with the test rules which are outlined in the Duolingo FAQ’s and are also included in the instructions at the beginning of the exam.
The rules include –
- no wearing earphones,
- no interacting with anyone else,
- no using your phone or other devices, and
- no looking offscreen.
It is important to follow these rules during the test, or you will need to repeat it again.
Taking the test
The Duolingo English Test includes a writing portion and video interview.
You have a choice of two question topics for each video interview and the writing sample. You will then speak for one to three minutes and write for up to five minutes.
There is a timer that will keep track for you. If you get stuck or confused do not get upset —take a deep breath, and try to answer each question as best you can.
You will be able to review your responses before you submit.
If you are not happy with your performance, you can take the test again.
